Adegboyega Martins writes on 'JAPA' viral Nigerian Internet English (Pics+Videos)

Trending Nigerian slang “Jaapa” is the word on every Nigerian youth's lip. Just after we recovered from the ‘ShoMoAgeMi’ madness which was invented by veteran Nollywood actor, Jigan, who used it in one of his comedy skits which portrayed him as a too meek a person who is easily bullied. Funny! The word ‘Jaapa’ will definitely be registered in the Nigerian urban English as the street is adopting it in every sentence. Although we haven’t seen an hip-hop music to appreciate this word as at the time of writing this but trust Nigerians we are sure to see a Yoruba movie being titled ‘Jaapa’ in no time. One seemingly good thing about this is that linguistics/languages students have a new word to study as we’ve seen from past experiences project titles of the likes. ‘Jáapà’ –A Yoruba word which can be translated in context to mean ‘to elope’ ‘to detach’ ‘to dump’. Though many believe it’s a vocabulary majorly for the Yoruba demons, slay queens, broken hearted baes, wicke

Great to hear this. Don Moen To Feature Nigeria's Frank Edwards?

After coming on the music scene with his powerful guitar skills and high-voiced rock gospel music, Frank Edwards, might just be on a set course to do a collaborative song with one of the world's most respected gospel artiste, Don Moen. Going by a recent photo of the Nigerian gospel artiste with Don Moen in the studio, many gospel music fans are wondering if there is a duet song to be expected from the duo. Frank Edwards had visibly impressed the international gospel artiste, Donnie Mclurkin, at the 2014 gospel concert, The Experience 8.0' organised by the Paul Adefarasin-led church, House on the Rock. Donnie Mclurkin had invited Frank Edwards to join him on stage to sing the Nigerian's popular song, 'Oghene Do'

THE RESIDENTS OF AGEGE TAKES TO THE STREET TO PROTEST THE INAVAILABILTY OF POWER

Image
The power supply in the local government area has been in a very sorry state for months now. Lagosians in particular have been lamenting lately, testifying that the IKEDC (IKEJA ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY) has been unfair performing their duties. Some even said the power is only stable within the duration of five minutes and it takes forever before the power comes on. As for me Nepa (as locally called) didn't try at all ooo. I Kinda think they use it for competition to see who can iron an Iro and Buba within 30 seconds to see who finishes first. This Kind of condition coupled with the fuel scarcity. Haba !!!
